  • Why should we hire an interim director of development?
    Stability. Time. Innovation. Just to name a few. Hiring a new director of development is a big deal. It’s natural to want to rush and fill this position, but your organization may benefit from a strategic pause and evaluation of your fundraising program. A fresh “inside” perspective can help your team upgrade fundraising operations, identify unseen opportunities, and candidly provide insights on the skills and experience your future higher will need to be successful. Plus, with an experienced leader on-board, your development team will keep momentum, receive direction, and benefit from valuable coaching designed to help them grow even in the absence of a permanent manager.
  • What do you mean by fractional?
    Affordable, part-time expertise. Operating as a short-term contractor, my monthly fees typically come in around the amount you’ve already budgeted for a full-time director.
  • What "hands-on" support will you provide as an interim director or short-term fractional fundraiser?
    In addition to performing a fundraising audit and crafting short- and/or long-term fundraising plans, my support will depend on the needs of your organization. This could include board fundraising training and coaching, creating donor engagement plans, copy writing, managing multi-channel solicitation campaigns, updating internal policies and procedures, writing phone and email outreach scripts, etc. My goal is to help you and your team build relationships with your donors, so while I won't be soliciting them directly, I can help prioritize outreach, prepare for donor meetings, think through cultivation and solicitation strategies, craft stewardship communications and more.
  • How do I know if my organization is the right fit?
    INTERIM DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT Let's chat if: Your director of development just gave notice You are struggling to find the "right" candidate You or your staff - executive or development - are floundering without fundraising direction You are approaching fiscal or calendar year-end without fundraising leadership Also, this partnership tends to work best if your organization: Has at least one fundraising team member on staff (coordinator, manager, etc.) Raises approximately $1M to $3M in contributed revenue each year with a minimum of $500,000 from individuals. SHORT-TERM FRACTIONAL FUNDRAISER Let's chat if: You have an early/new career Director of Development on board who is coachable and excited to take their fundraising skills to the next level You are ready to focus on building individual and corporate donor programs through a relationship-based model Your organization is using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and raising at least $500,000 in contributed revenue from individuals each year.
  • How many hours a week will you work with my organization?
    As a fractional interim director of development or short-term fractional fundraiser, clients can expect virtual support (with an on-site option) via weekly office hours, strategy meetings, etc. with ongoing availability by phone and email. Ultimately my work is based on deliverables rather than hours. Fundraising plan and coaching package clients will benefit from six weekly 1-hour virtual meetings in addition to onboarding and plan review sessions which can be held in-person, depending on location.
