Marketing + Development = Magic

Marketing + Development = Magic

But should they be done by the same person?

I’ve had some energizing conversations with marketing folks recently (Corrie OberdinFaigy GilderAngela Marino 👀) and we talked about this long-time nonprofit hiring trend.

Thing is, when you combine these two unique roles, you typically get someone who is better at one or the other. They are very different skill sets.

Do you need to build awareness and a strong pipeline? Hire a marketer.

Do you need to raise $$ and grow sustaining partnerships? Hire a fundraiser.

Both? Consider starting with one FTE + a fractional counterpart OR two fractional people for the short term (1-2 years).

If you’ve filled a combo role with a strong marketer – consider working with a short term fundraising partner (👋) to help them build confidence and make sure they’re headed in the right direction.
